A Rose man was treated for hypothermia after falling through the ice Thursday while trying to cross Sodus Bay on a snowmobile.

Richard E. Crombach, 75, was pulled from the water by ice rescue crews from the Sodus Point and Alton fire departments and Sheriff’s Office and taken to the shore for treatment. He was taken to Newark Wayne Hospital.

State troopers, Wolcott firefighters and crews from Silver Waters Ambulance, Wayne ambulance and Wayne County advanced life support also responded.

Deputies recommend staying off the ice because conditions are unpredictable and unsafe
