New York State lawmakers passed a bill to move Primary Day.

Lawmakers in the State Senate and Assembly voted to move Primary Day to Thursday, September 13.

This year, Primary Day is scheduled to fall on Tuesday, September 11.

Lawmakers and supporters said that they wanted to move the date in honor of the September 11 terrorist attacks, as well as in observation of the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

The bill will now head to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
