No unnecessary travel: This travel advisory has been issued for Ontario, Monroe, Livingston and Yates Counties. High winds and heavy snow are making the trek treacherous.

High winds and heavy snow made traveling a nightmare for many in the Rochester area late Thursday night into Friday morning.

The sheriffs in Livingston, Ontario and Yates Counties all issued Travel Advisories. They urge no unnecessary travel for all drivers.

New York State Department of Transportation spokesman Jordan Guerrein told News10NBC that the agency is asking people who have to leave for work in the morning to plan for extra time for the commute.

Guerrein said that plow drivers will be on 12-hour shifts for the next 24 hours, and that, at any time, 40 plow drivers will be on the road in our region.

More than two dozen arriving and departing flights at the ROC Airport have already been cancelled for Friday.
