Sheriff Barry Virts announced a Stop-DWI Crackdown period for St. Patrick’s Day on March 16-18.
The campaign is linked with other law enforcement initiatives done at key times of the year. It is a locally driven program with all Wayne County law enforcement agencies. Police departments, New York State Police and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office coordinate awareness, education and enforcement activities.
Research findings demonstrate that highly visible, publicized efforts like the Stop-DWI St. Patrick’s Day and Weekend campaign can further reduce the occurrence of DWI.
The Stop-DWI Foundation created Have a Plan, a mobile app that is available as a free download for smartphones to help find safe rides home. Visit for information.
Future Stop-DWI crackdowns include Memorial Day weekend.
