Jazz pianist Doug Blackall and off-Broadway vocalist Kate Mulberry will perform at the ninth annual Music for Mission from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on April 22 at Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club, 7030 Bayview Drive, Sodus Point.
Blackall is a 1999 Sodus High School graduate who earned his bachelor’s degree in music education at SUNY Fredonia and his master’s degree in music education at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam.
After teaching in Malone for several years, Blackall returned to Wayne County, where he is the director of theater arts at Palmyra-Macedon Middle School. He is involved in all aspects of musical production, teaches piano lessons, accompanies Gates Hall Community Theater shows and is organist and choir director at First United Presbyterian Church in Sodus. Blackall started playing piano when he was 8 years old, and credits his private piano and public school teachers for helping him discover jazz.
Mulberry experienced her first singing and acting opportunities in school productions, graduating from Sodus High School in 2005. Her choice of a college education took her to SUNY Fredonia, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater, graduating summa cum laude.
Upon graduation, Mulberry moved to New York City, where she has performed in off-Broadway productions, cabarets, music videos and children’s theater shows. Her credits include Sally Bowles in “Cabaret,” Pennywise in “Urinetown,” Yumi in the New York premiere of “Cartoon,” “Marat/Sade” and “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged!].”
The event will feature a silent auction with Mike Mulberry as auctioneer. Donations are appreciated.
