The five Papa John's locations in Rochester have closed suddenly.

A letter from Schulyer J. Lofberg is posted on doors, and reads as follows:

"It saddens me to say that effective immediately Papa John's will no longer be operating in Rochester, NY. It's come to an abrupt ending due to the heavy headwinds put upon us by New York State. We will not be the last to fall under this current business climate. I sincerely apologize to our loyal customers. They made this worth everything to me."

Some employees tell the Daily Messenger's news partner News10NBC that they found out Monday morning of the closures. The owner tells News10NBC that employees they will be paid.

News10NBC has reached out to corporate, but have yet to hear back.
