ORIGINAL:

A teen is in critical condition after the car she was in crashed into a tree and a pole in Phelps.

At around 5 p.m. Sunday, deputies say 21-year-old Justin Palombi was driving north on South Marbletown Road in Phelps when he lost control of his car after traveling around a curve. The car struck a tree and a utility pole.

Deputies say 17-year-old Kaitlyn Ingerick was a passenger in the car and had to be cut out of the car by rescue crews.

She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Investigators say Palombi suffered a hand injury but is expected to be okay.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
