A federal judge ruled that Monroe County sheriff's deputies did not violate Charlie Tan's Miranda Rights on the night he was arrested for his father's murder.
As a result, statements he made to deputies will be admissible in his upcoming federal trial.
Tan's attorneys had tried to get some of his statements thrown out.
Tan is facing federal gun charges in connection to his father Jim's death at their Pittsford home back in 2015. A judge dismissed his murder charge after a hung jury could not reach a verdict.
His father was the CEO of Canandaigua-based Dynamax Imaging.
