The farmer was found under a tipped bulldozer in Lyons

LYONS — A farming accident Wednesday along Sohn Alloway Road took the life of an 84-year-old farmer.

Richard A. Lyon, 84, was clearing some farmland when he was ejected from the bulldozer he was operating, at around 3 p.m., according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. His neighbor, Clifford Bennett, walked over to investigate the scene when he found Mr. Lyon trapped underneath the bulldozer.

Mr. Lyon was pronounced dead on the scene.

"He was a nice guy; if you needed something he’d help you out, if he needed something I’d help him out. ... He liked to run bulldozer, he run bulldozer probably 50 years or better, always loved to clean up ... us farmers, we ain’t too self conscious about getting hurt, just get stuff done," said Bennett.

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly how Mr. Lyon fell off the bulldozer.

Friends and neighbors say that the man who died owned this farm and he and his son work on it often.
