Jeremy Cooney is challenging Republican incumbent state Sen. Joe Robach in Rochester-area district 56.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren's former Chief of Staff is running for the New York State Senate.
Jeremy Cooney held a rally on Saturday to announce his candidacy for the 56th District seat as a Democrat.
He will challenge Republican incumbent State Senator Joe Robach.
The district covers Rochester, Brighton, Clarkson, Gates, Greece, Hamlin and Parma.

Cooney said that if elected, he'll focus on common sense measures to make our community safer and more sustainable.
"After 25 years, I think it's time to bring a new generation to Albany," he said. "I think it's time that we have the opportunity to talk about issues that have not been talked about. Again, this region can't afford to be on the sidelines come January when the Democratic majority takes place."
Robach has represented New York State Senate's 56th District for 15 years.
