Two people have been arrested for assaulting a three-year-old boy in Seneca Falls, according to State Police.

Donald Bovio and Alison Bovio, both 38, were arrested on Monday following a medical call Saturday afternoon. Police say it was reported that child fell down the stairs.

The child was flown to Upstate Medical Center where he underwent treatment. Medical staff determined the boy's injuries were inconsistent with a fall.

As a result of a child abuse investigation, the Bovios are charged with felony first-degree assault. The charge carries a possible 25-year prison sentence.

Police say the child is in critical condition and on life support.

Additional charges are pending, according to police.

Both Donald and Alison Bovio were arraigned and sent to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on $50,00 cash bail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 18 at 5:30 p.m.
