When Kevin Mooney was ready to assume the presidency of Newark Rotary Club last year, the board was urged to support Laurel House in the same manner that the community banded together in 1955-57 to make Newark-Wayne Community Hospital a reality.
The decision was made to pledge major support to the comfort care home. Newark Rotary recently presented the final installment of a $15,000 commitment to Laurel House. These donations represent the cost of a resident bedroom and bathroom.
Rotarians Michele McManus, Sharon SanAngelo and Pat Albrecht were part of the Laurel House Gala Planning Committee, which helped bring in $20,000 in 2017. Many gala attendees were Rotarians, and a significant number of auction items were donated by Rotarians.
Laurel House benefited financially from Rotary chicken barbecues and pancake breakfasts.
John Zornow, Rotary board member and past president, spent an average of nine hours per week during the winter months helping to paint the interior of Laurel House.
