Canandaigua Police officer was injured while attempting to prevent a man from jumping off the West Avenue bridge on Friday.

A Canandaigua Police officer was injured while attempting to prevent a man from jumping off the West Avenue bridge on Friday.

According to police, on Friday at about 2:25 p.m., members of the Canandaigua Police Department encountered a man threatening to jump from the West Avenue Bridge. An officer from the department attempted to prevent Clarence Grover, 32, of Canandaigua, from jumping off the bridge. In the ensuing struggle, the officer sustained a serious shoulder injury.

Officers were ultimately able to subdue Grover, preventing him from jumping from the bridge. Grover received medical treatment and was charged with second-degree assault (a class D felony). Grover was taken to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment. The officer was taken by ambulance to Thompson Hospital to be treated for his injury.
