This is a reminder that fireworks (pyrotechnics) are definite hazards to people and property due to the probability of injury and fire. Please be aware that fireworks are unlawful in New York state, and leave the use of fireworks to the professionals.
The use and display of fireworks is all fun and games until someone is injured, your property or property of another is damaged and/or loss to fire.
It is my goal to educate you on the hazards that fireworks pose to people and property. I am working to keep you and your loved ones from injury, your property and your neighbor’s property from being damaged.
If you use, display or possess fireworks, you may be subject to arrest and criminal penalties.
Please do not use fireworks; leave the display of fireworks to the professionals that are trained and licensed in the use of pyrotechnics.
Sparkler devices may be enjoyed in Wayne County. The sale of sparkler devices is only permitted on or between June 1 through July 5 and Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 of each calendar year. All distributors, manufacturers and retailers must be registered through the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and only those over the age of 18 may purchase sparkle devices. The sale and use of sparkler devices may be suspended by order of the chairman of the board of supervisors following adoption of a board resolution finding that due to dry conditions the public health or safety would be imperiled by increased risk of fire.
Be safe!
