The H.G. Hotchkiss Peppermint Museum, 95 Water St., Lyons, will have special hours during Lyons Peppermint Days on July 15-16.
On July 15, the museum will open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m., with tours on the hour. On July 16, tours start at noon and run until 4 p.m., with tours on the hour.
The museum’s Peppermint Shoppe will have a booth in the park on both days. New products include Silver Acres soap, peppermint spoons, various mints and lotions, peppermint pigs and peppermint oil.
The focal point of Lyons Peppermint Days is the peppermint oil factory museum, because of its impact on the economic development of Lyons, Wayne County and New York. In late 19th century, Lyons was known as the Peppermint Capital of the World, as it was the world’s largest supplier of peppermint oil. The factory now is a museum that boasts of being one of three industries left intact on the entire Erie Canal.
