A Romulus man has been arrested after deputies say he tortured his neighbor's dog by trapping it in an enclosed steel box for more than eight hours.

The Seneca County Sheriff's Office says they responded to a home on Iron Bridge Road in Romulus around 8:15 p.m. Saturday for a report of animal cruelty.

Deputies arrested Jeffrey Vanhorn, 59, for allegedly trapping his neighbor's 2-year-old black lab mix in a steel enclosed box for over eight hours while temperatures exceeded 90 degrees.

The dog was freed and has since recovered.

Vanhorn was released on an appearance ticket. He is due back in court on July 27 on a charge of animal torture.
