Waterloo woman was passenger in vehicle struck by rock in town of Seneca.

A woman died from head injuries due to a rock hitting the windshield of a vehicle she was riding in about noon on Saturday in the town of Seneca. Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies reported that Barbara J. Amidon, 74, of Waterloo, was the passenger in the vehicle headed west on Routes 5 and 20 near the intersection with County Road 5.

A large rock hit the vehicle, penetrated the windshield, and struck Ms. Amidon, according to deputies. The driver of the vehicle, Gregory A. Sterman, 65, of Geneva, drove Ms. Amidon to Geneva General Hospital for medical treatment. Deputies said she had a serious head injury and was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Amidon died from her injuries Saturday evening at Strong.

Deputies said a passing truck/commercial vehicle headed east threw the rock from the area of its wheels. Sheriff’s investigators are working to identify the truck and driver.

Anyone who may have been in the area and has information related to this incident is asked to call Ontario County Sheriff’s Office at 800 394-4560.
