How should parents prepare their children for school in buildings without air conditioning?

As kids are going back to school in 90-degree temperatures many are left to wonder: How should parents prepare their children for school in buildings without air conditioning?

Last week, extreme heat caused schools in several other northeastern states to close early or cancel classes. For example, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Connecticut all had districts forced to take action to keep students safe.

"Water bottles are essential. Access to water is very important for these young children. Recess should be minimized...." explained Dr. LeKeyah Wilson, pediatrician at Rochester Regional Health.

One other tip to beat the heat inside the classroom, turn off the lights!

That can actually bring the temperature down.
