The Newark Athletic Hall of Fame recently announced its third induction class of athletes, coaches and supporters of Newark athletics.
The highest honor given to a Newark Red, this third group was selected by the Newark Hall of Fame committee made up of community members as well as active and retired coaches.
This year’s inductees are the 2003 Newark Reds softball team; Joe Contario, coach from 1976 to present, Class of 1971; Jack Fisher, coach, 1973-2015; Tom Hausman, athlete, Class of 1971; Rick Kouwe, athlete, Class of 1963; Joe Mathias, athlete, Class of 1995; Mike Muscolino, contributor/coach, Class of 1967; and Rachel Prong, athlete, Class of 2001.
“This Hall of Fame class is the embodiment of the success of Newark athletics history at the league, sectional and state level,” said Chris Corey, director of health, physical education and athletics for Newark Central School District. “It is humbling to see such a talented group of individuals and a team to be honored for their accomplishments. We are honored to add such an amazing group of athletes, coaches and teams to the Newark Athletic Hall of Fame.”
