The funding will help expand SUNY's Got Your Back comfort bag program.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced $5 million in funding Wednesday to help victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

The funding will help expand SUNY's Got Your Back comfort bag program which supplies comfort bags to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence seeking help at hospitals, shelters and rape crisis centers across the state.

The comfort bags contain both vital information about services available to victims as well as essential personal care items.

The added funds, provided by the New York State Office of Victim Services, will allow the program to supply and distribute roughly 225,000 more comfort bags across the state.

The program has already supplied around 25,000 bags to victims within the last three years.

"This unique partnership has brought support to tens of thousands of victims while spreading awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence on SUNY campuses statewide," Governor Cuomo said. "With additional investments to bolster this initiative, we can continue to help survivors while working to end the cycle of sexual assault and violence that affects so many New Yorkers."
