Newark graduate named Runner of the Week

Dillon VanDemortel, of Newark, was named Runner of the Week for men’s cross-country by the North Eastern Athletic Conference for the week ending Sept. 2, 2018.

VanDemortel posted his second invitational win of the year for SUNY Cobleskill at the 2018 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet hosted by Fitchburg State University at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, Massachusetts.

The freshman defeated the 91-runner field by covering the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26 minutes, 23 seconds to lead the Fighting Tigers to a team total of 162 points and a seventh-place finish in a field of nine teams.

 

Newark teacher performing assistant principal duties

Laurie Palmisano, of Geneva, is working as an administrative intern at Newark Middle School and Newark High School for the 2018-19 academic year, performing the duties of an assistant principal.

Palmisano is working toward her administrative degree from SUNY Oswego. Her new role meets the program’s internship requirement.

Palmisano taught fifth grade in 2017-18 at Kelley School in Newark. She previously taught grades 5-6 at Lyons Elementary School for 12 years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Elmira College and her master’s degree in general education at St. Lawrence University in Canton.

 

Macedon resident joins LaBella Associates

Connor Ramsdell, of Macedon, recently joined LaBella Associates as an environmental analyst for the environmental division in Rochester.

Ramsdell previously worked as a seasonal laborer for the town of Penfield.

LaBella specializes in architecture, engineering, environmental consulting, surveying, planning and grant writing.
