The Wayne County Historical Society will host a presentation related to its current exhibit, “Imbibing: The History of Alcohol in Wayne County,” at 2 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Museum of Wayne County History, 21 Butternut St., Lyons.
Jane Oakes will present “The Lost Wineries of Western New York.” She will discuss the forgotten commercial winemakers of York, Pavilion, Charlotte, Irondequoit, Hemlock, Dansville and Ossian. Attendees will view a slideshow and sample wines.
Oakes spent time researching local history. Her efforts helped add the Avon Opera Block and Five Arch Bridge in Livingston County to the National Register of Historic Places. She works as a consultant for museums in western New York, as well as for groups and individuals who need advice on restoring historic opera houses.
Reservations are required for the free presentation. Donations will be accepted. Call (315) 946-4943 or visit waynehistory.org for information.
