WOLCOTT — A Wayne County man accused of brutally beating a woman early Saturday morning has been charged with assault .
Walter Clark, 38, turned himself into authorities Monday and was charged with second-degree assault, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The victim could be heard screaming for help on Main Street in Red Creek, according to the sheriff's office.
When a Wayne County deputy responded to the scene he allegedly saw Clark atop the victim and then saw Clark flee, according to the sheriff's office. The victim suffered fractures to her face, ribs, a collapsed lung and several lacerations that required stitches. She was still hospitalized Monday for treatment.
Clark turned himself into the custody of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office Monday and was remanded to the Wayne County Jail pending the posting of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 insured bond.
