North Rose-Wolcott Elementary School students and staff recently paid tribute to 39 veterans with a special breakfast and assembly.
Students invited family members who previously served or are serving in the military to attend the event. Breakfast was provided and served by staff members in the cafeteria, and followed by the assembly in the gymnasium.
During the assembly, fourth-grade students read about what it means to be a veteran and recapped important events in U.S. history. Principal Melissa Pietricola spoke to the audience about bravery.
“Over the past week, our students have focused on what bravery means to them,” Pietricola said. “We’re very thankful to these veterans for their bravery and service.”
The assembly featured traditional American songs, including “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Veterans were recognized individually during the assembly, and the students who invited them escorted the vets to the front of the gym to receive flowers and a certificate.
