The Wayne County Sheriff's Office identified the woman and her one-year-old son who were involved in a crash Tuesday that landed their car upside down in a water-filled ditch.

Erin Ward, 25, of Williamson was traveling north on Wolcott Spring Lake Road in the Town of Butler with her one-year-old son, Leland Holmes IV.

According to police, Ward went off the road and struck a tree causing the car to overturn. Deputies found the vehicle in a flooded roadside ditch partially submerged.

Ward and Holmes were pulled from the vehicle and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say Ward had fallen asleep at the wheel and awoke only seconds before the crash. However, Ward was not cited for the accident.
