Newark—Edward VerStraete, 92 died on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at him home.
Friends called from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 3 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 E. Miller St., Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Felix Dalimpuo at 11:30 a.m. on March 4 at Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Phelps.

Mr. VerStraete was born on Dec. 26, 1920 in the Town of Phelps the son of the late Beonie and Louise Synesael VerStraete. He owned and operated his dairy from on Snake Road since 1946, retiring in 1988. Ed was a member of the Eastern Co-op Milk Producers and the Newark Grange. H was one of the Charter Member of the Marbletown Fire Department. Ed's great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years. Marcia (Verdehem), children Diana Tormey, Susan House both of Newark, Frederick of Warsaw, MO, JoAnn Stransky of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; daughter-in-law Joyce VerStraete on Destin, FL; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter. Ed was predeceased by a son William in 1995, six siblings Vincent, Raymond, Frank, Dorothy Kneut, Donald and Marie VerStraete.
