CLYDE / BOYNTON BEACH FLA. — Formerly of Elm Street Clyde, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 in the Hospice of Palm Beach, Fla. following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 54.
Family and friends called on Friday, Oct. 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the Baris Funeral Home at 87 W. Genesee St. in Clyde. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 22 in St. John's Cemetery at 11 a.m. with her brother, the Rev. Scott Greene officiating. Beth was born on Nov. 22, 1956 the daughter of the late Donald and Joyce Strong Greene. She was well known throughout Clyde and the surrounding area for providing child care to all the neighborhood children. Beth also was employed by DiSanto Jet Gas of Clyde before moving to Florida. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening and walking around the Clyde area. On Aug. 2, 1980 Beth married John Arnitz who pre-deceased her on July 2, 2007, a month short of their 27th wedding anniversary.
Surviving are her children Jessica (David) Trapasso of Cheektowaga, Matt (Amanda Lundergan) of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Ian Arnitz of West Palm Beach, her sisters Sue (Brian) Graham of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Sharri (Scott) Courter of Boynton Beach; her brothers David (Dat) Greene of Maryland, Rev. Scott (Kathy) Greene of Addison, N.Y., Russell Greene of Tennessee and Brett Greene of Elmira; her former mother-in-law Mrs. Josephine Arnitz of Clyde; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends and her most devoted companion Queenie.

MARION — Entered eternity on Saturday Oct. 15, 2011 at the Wayne County Nursing Home at the age of 78.
There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends attended a Funeral Service Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc. at 124 W. Miller St. in Newark. Burial followed in East Palmyra Cemetery.

Nellie was born the daughter of the late Ossie and Alice (Cox) Pigue on December 29, 1932 in Bells, Tenn. After graduation from High School Nellie moved to Wayne County. She Worked at IEC Corp. in Newark for 30 years as a Supervisor. Nellie enjoyed working, crafts and reading.
Nellie will be remembered by her sons Michael (Amy) Davis, Richard (Julie), Craig (Carrie) and Tim (Jan) Finley; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister Nancy Pillow; several nieces and nephews.

Giacchetta, Mark
PALMYRA — Surrounded and supported by his loving family, Mark passed peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
A resident of Palmyra for over 44 years, Mark graduated from Pal-Mac High School in 1973 and attended Finger Lakes Community College. Over the course of his life, Mark held a number of management positions, including 20 years as a Division Manager for Griffith Energy.
When Mark wasn’t working or spending time with his family, he was making a difference in his community as a volunteer. His most recent activities included his service as vice president on the Palmyra Community Center Board and vice president of the Pal-Mac Youth Baseball Program. Mark also had a passion for cooking, gardening and following the Yankees’ every move.
Pre-deceased by his father Peter and father-in-law Robert E. Byers, Mark is survived by his loving wife Robin and two sons, Nicholas of Pensacola, Fla. and Thomas of Palmyra; his mother Rose of Monroe, N.C.; twin sister Rosemarie of Syracuse; five brothers, Peter (Ryl) of Ashville, N.C., Michael (Carol) of Glens Falls, Tim (Kathy) of East Greenbush, Anthony (Nori) of Schenectady, Trevor (Christine) of Acworth, Ga.; adopted brother Jim Smith (Jae) of Walworth, mother- in-law Laura Byers, sister-in-law Barbara Marcellino (Rocco), brothers-in-law Scott (Cathy), Tom (Dawn); many nieces and nephews; dear friends, Don and Ann Vogan, and many close friends who knew Mark as a sensitive and caring man with an endless sense of humor that could always make you smile.

Hubbard, Dorothy
NEWARK — Died peacefully at the Pines of Peace Hospice in Ontario, Oct. 19, 2011 at the age of 93.
Dorothy was born June 17, 1918, the daughter of Jennie and Clare Emerick in the town of Ira, N.Y. Dorothy graduated from Cato High School in 1934 as valedictorian of her class. She worked for the Newark Courier-Gazette as a typesetter, and she worked many years in the offices of Jackson Perkins. She enjoyed raising flowers and selling them at the farmers market, and was an avid quilter, and antique collector. Many antiques were family pieces and she knew who owned them and their significance. She has the honor of being the oldest active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, of Newark. She attended and participated weekly in activities there. Dorothy was generous with her time and would drive members without transportation to doctors appointments. She will always be remembered as an independent, energetic, yet soft-spoken woman.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Paul Southard, her three sons, James of East Williamson, John of Gwinn, Mich., Jerry of Phoenix, Ariz., from her marriage, a daughter Patsy Castiglia and sons Bill Southard and Lee Southard, (deceased). Dorothy was a loving Grandma to 10 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. She is predeceased by her first husband Russell Hubbard in 1992 and a brother Roland Emmerick.
Friends called from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at Paul L. Murphy and Sons Funeral Home at 127 E. Miller St. in Newark. Funeral Services for Dorothy were held on Monday, Oct. 24 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Newark at 301 E. Miller St. in Newark 11 a.m. Burial will be in Cato Union Hill Cemetery, Cato.

Lagana, Brian Paul
RALIEGH, N.C. — Died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at the age of 55.
He was born in Rochester Jan. 10, 1956. Brian was a graduate of SUNY Potsdam. He traveled the world as a Network Consultant for IBM. He was an Eagle Scout with a great love of the outdoors. His ready smile, great humor and big heart will be missed.
Brian is survived by his parents, Marylou and John J. Lagana of Victor; son, Mark A. Feeney of Woodside, N.Y.; sister, Lisa of Rochester, brothers, Michael and wife, Trisch, of Gladstone, N.J., Steven and wife, Michele, of Clarksville, Md.; nieces and nephews, A.J., Jordan, Isabel, Max, Monica, Ursula, Genevieve, Sam and Katrina Lagana.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private.

Don was born the son of the late James and Margie (Potter) Miller on Friday, Jan. 16, 1948 in Kentucky. He graduated from high school and was in his second year of medical school when he joined the Marine Corp. After doing a tour in Vietnam, he returned home and faced many challenges and was never able to return to college or hold a job. The funeral home proudly flies the Marine Corp flag in honor of his service to our country.
Don will be remembered by his sisters Marsha Miller of Texas and Lynn Miller of East Aurora; nephew Jerold Miller; and good friends and helpers Thomas and Marsha Dutcher of Newark. Don was predeceased by his parents and brother Keith Miller.

Schmitt, Charles J.
ONTARIO — Died on Oct. 18, 2011 at age 92.
Married 65 years to Jeanette (Jan). Survived by two brothers, Joseph (Tina) Schmitt and William (Elizabeth) Schmitt; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edward and Ruth Maier; two special nephews, Richard (Virginia) Maier and Robert (Mary Ellen) Maier; many other special nieces and nephews.
He was a life-member of the VFW in Wolcott No. 7417 and also a member of the American Legion No. 881.
There will be no prior calling hours. His Funeral Mass was held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church in Ontario, followed by his Committal Service at Calvary Cemetery.

PALMYRA — Passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 at age 49 at the House of John, in Clifton Springs.
Survived by loving friends and immediate family members that include his parents, Louis and Suzanne Sementilli; brother James Sementilli; sister Debbie LeMoyne; several nieces, nephews and cousins; goddaughter Gina Durfee. Mike graduated from Palmyra-Macedon High School and received a BS in communications from SUNY Geneseo.
Michael was an avid sports enthusiast and was particularly passionate about college sports, horse racing and golf. He was a walking encyclopedia of sports statistics & used statistical facts in his broadcasts on Channel 12, FLTV, appropriately named Sports Trac. Mike’s unique perspective resulted in a loyal following for over 20 years, which continues today. In addition to Michael being a sports enthusiast, he will always be revered in his ability to help others and his compassionate heart. Mike deeply valued family, friends, music, film and enjoyed simple moments and a good laugh.
