Senior attacker helps Danes rally in recent games and also becomes school's all-time leading scorer, plus more news and notes on local athletes

The spotlight is nothing new for Dakotah Savitcheff. It’s part of the territory when you score goals the way the Canandaigua Academy graduate does.

And as Savitcheff’s lacrosse career winds down at the University at Albany, the senior attacker has provided plenty of spotlight moments.

Earlier this month, Savitcheff became the school’s all-time leading goal scorer, proving she can score in bunches. And twice last week, she showed just how clutch she can be.

Against Cornell on April 11, Savitcheff scored the tying and winning goals in the final 20 seconds of the 11-10 win. Four days later, her free-position goal with 18 seconds left lifted the Danes to a 9-8 win over New Hampshire. It earned Savitcheff Player of the Week honors from US Lacrosse.

Savitcheff is second on the team with 39 goals this season, giving her 192 for her career to surpass the record of 175 set by Rachel Bowles from 2012-16. Savitcheff already holds the top two single-season scoring records at Albany, with 64 as a sophomore and 58 as a junior.

The Danes (10-4) are off until April 29, when they close the regular season at Binghamton
