The Screaming Eagles held off the Red Raiders, which leads off our weekly recap of local sports
After losing five of the first six matches of Tuesday’s dual meet against Palmyra-Macedon, the Midlakes wrestling team knew what it had to do in order to take the dual meet.
Then, the Screaming Eagles took care of business, winning the next seven matches on their way to 45-38 victory over the Red Raiders on Thursday at Midlakes.
All of the victories for Midlakes were actual head-to-head victories, with the exception of Justin Babcock, who won at 195 pounds via forfeit.
The other winners for the Screaming Eagles were Brandon MacDonell, who won at 120 pounds by a fall at 1:34, Wyatt Smith, who won at 145 pounds by a fall at 0:36, Preston Cooper, who won at 152 pounds by a fall at 0:18, Josh Orlopp, who won at 160 pounds by a fall at 0:46, Jaden Presher, who won at 170 pounds by a fall at 3:38, Curtis Grimes, who won at 182 pounds by a fall at 0:49, and Jacob Wright, who won at 220 pounds by a 9-2 decision.
The winners for the Red Raiders were Dominic Affronti, who won at 106 pounds by a fall at 2:29, Ryan Trapp, who won at 113 pounds by a fall at 2:35, Kaleb Burgess, who won at 126 pounds by a forfeit, Zach Affronti, who won at 132 pounds by a technical fall, Caleb Bartosch, who won at 138 pounds by a 2-0 decision, Zach Trautman, who won at 285 pounds by a forfeit, and Jace Schafer, who won at 99 pounds by a fall at 1:39.
Marcus Whitman 111, Palmyra-Macedon 75
Kyle Copper won the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.98 and won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.93 for Marcus Whitman (3-0) in their win over Palmyra-Macedon (4-2) on Thursday at Palmyra.
Also for the Wildcats, Zach Dean won the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.31 and won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.88, Jackson Snaith won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.77 and won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:54.17, Carl Parsons won the 200 IM with a time of 2:34.67, and Brandon McDonald won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.37.
Marcus Whitman’s 200 medley relay team of Lucian Sacheli, Dean, Copper, and McDonald won with a time of 1:50,82, Whitman’s 200 freestyle relay team of Sacheli, Snaith, Dean, and McDonald won with a time of 1:41.06, and Whitman’s 400 freestyle relay team of Ben Oswald, Parsons, Snaith, and Copper won with a time of 3:55.27 as well.
For the Red Raiders, Alex Brychcy won the diving competition with a score of 249.30.
Clyde-Savannah 55, East Rochester 38
Kadayha Hogan had 13 points and 15 rebounds for East Rochester and three players each scored six points.
Finney 55, Sodus 46
Fatimaah Findley led Sodus with 16 points and 6 rebounds, and Tamia White had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Alahna Paige had 14 points and 2 blocks, and Megan Dano had 10 points and 4 rebounds for Irondequoit.
Marcus Whitman 53, North Rose-Wolcott 24
Jordyn Chappelle tallied 22 points for Marcus Whitman (4-1) in their win over North Rose-Wolcott (2-2) on Tuesday at Marcus Whitman.
Emily Thompson had 15 points and seven steals for the Wildcats as well.

Caiden Crego had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for Lyons and Adriana Kemp had six points and 12 rebounds.
Cierra Moody had eight rebounds for Williamson and Kiki Hall scored 14 points.

Peyton Daeffler had 15 points and 6 rebounds and Nadine Coleman had 12 points and 5 rebounds.
Aquinas 60, Wayne 53
Gabby Zenelovic led Wayne with 12 points and 6 rebounds while Alana Kornaker had 12 points and 7 rebounds. Mia Wemesfelder had 6 points and 10 rebounds.
Chanel Alexander led Aquinas with 28 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists.
Wayland-Cohocton 50, Palmyra-Macedon 49
Penfield 108, Palmyra-Macedon 75
Alex Brychcy won the 100 freestyle and the diving competition with a score of 276.55, three points off the school record, for Palmyra-Macedon (4-1) in their loss to Penfield on Tuesday at Palmyra.
Zach Moyer won the 50 freestyle for the Red Raiders as well. Also for Palmyra-Macedon, their 200 freestyle relay team of Mitch Stopp, Moyer, Aidan Quinn, and Jackson Bay won with a time of 1:45.13.
Newark 121, Clyde-Savannah/Mynderse 44
Talyn Pierce won the 200 freestyle and the butterfly, Brendan Briggs won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, and Zachary Rodrick took the 100 freestyle and the backstroke for host Newark.
Gavin Rhinehart won the breaststroke for C-S/Mynderse.
Red Creek 61, Clyde-Savannah 33
Alex Mosqueda led Red Creek with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals, and Izzy Wilbur had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
Essence Mitchell scored 15 points and Tayler Sharp scored 13 for C-S.
