Wayne Central senior Connor Hollenbeck signed a letter of intent on Feb. 1, to attend Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA., to play football in the fall.
Q: Why did you choose Edinboro?
A: I like the football coaching staff and was impressed with the football program. The campus was exactly what I was looking for. Edinboro University has a great communication and broadcast journalism program, which is what I am interested in.
Q: Are you receiving a scholarship, either full or partial?
A: The coaching staff is still making that determination.
Q: What are the facilities like for football and training?
A: Edinboro has a brand new field house, “the bubble” which was built in 2009. The football field has new artificial turf, it is a beautiful stadium, & Edinboro has a state of the art weight room.
Q: Do they anticipate you playing freshman year?
A: I will most likely red shirt my freshman year. However, I am looking forward to working with the new Quarterback coach at Edinboro and competing for the starting position. Anything can happen.
Q: For which position are you projected?
A: Quarterback
Q: What other official visits did you make?
A: I had an official visit at Utica College, which was my second choice. Many other colleges were interested too.
Q: What are your high school accomplishments/records?
A: Accomplishments: Wayne - MVP 2011 season, 2011 first-team (Quarterback) Finger Lakes East, 2011 all-Greater Rochester Honorable Mention.
Records: Wayne - most passing yards in a season, most career passing yards, most touchdown passes in a season, game, and career.
Q: What is your most memorable sports moment?
A: I have many; however the 2010 Homecoming game against Newark was exciting and special. We were down 7-2, we had just received the ball on our 20 yard line with less than two minutes to go in the game and coach put me in at Quarterback. It was a tough low scoring and physical game to that point. Once in, I directed our team on an 80 yard touchdown scoring drive, throwing a TD pass with seconds to go to beat Newark. This helped Wayne preserve the undefeated season in the Finger Lakes that year.
