So who wants to talk about movies? Show of hands...?
All right, I'll start. I'm Erich Van Dussen, film critic for Messenger Post Media. It's a job I've had before -- I wrote my first review for the Post papers in October 1992, a rambling writeup of Michael Mann's Last of the Mohicans -- and I couldn't be happier to be back.
This blog will serve as a companion to my print column, running Fridays in the Daily Messenger and like clockwork in the weeklies. There you'll read a variety of stories about our regional film community, compare-and-contrast features that put new movies into the perspective of a century of cinema, and previews of new commercial and independent releases. But there's just too much happening in film to cover in that format ... which is where the blog comes in.
I'll be posting as frequently as I can with reviews of new and old movies, DVD releases, and whatever comes to mind. I hope you'll come back often, and tell me when I get something wrong. Now go pick up a copy of today's paper -- there's Oscar stuff in there!
