March 30, 1911
Tired of life, two 84-year-old inmates of the Wayne County home made a pact to take their own lives, using bed bug poison, dying within one half hour of each other.
The Newark Trout Club had stocked its Marbletown pond with fish, hoping for a good season.
The 1911 Newark High School Senior Class, scheduled to graduate in June were Francis Keane, Emma Hachschulz, Esther Heath, Lillian Sedgewick, Marguerite Roe, Alice Herendeen, Ada West, Carl Schuman, Corwin Beal, Ralph Coykendall, Ernest Lincoln, and Harold Noble.

Mrs. Bridget McDonald, Newark resident for 60 years, died at her home at 7 Washington St. She came to this country at the age of 16 from County Meath, Ireland. Her husband, Thomas, met his death at the Battle of Cedar Creek in the War of the Rebellion.

Miss Emily Comstock and Miss Jane Fremouw of the Newark High School, Class of 1961, were chosen valedictorian and salutatorian respectively.
Shown were Charles Hallagan, Dr. Frank Henne, Rev. Walter Hobkirk, and Russell Van Tyle, members of the finance committee of the 1961 Community Chest-Red Cross campaign.
The 6th annual Newark Policemen’s Ball was scheduled to be held at the Newark VFW.
Carl K. Van Etten, of 213 Mason St., veteran merchant tailor and businessman, retired after a 56-year career.
Morrison Radio & Television announced their move to the Newark Lyons Road opposite Colburn Park.

The Silver Link Rebekah Lodge No. 230 celebrated their 86th anniversary with a dinner and program at the American Legion. Forty-three members were present.
Albert Hartnagel died at the age of 55 after a long illness. Mr. Hartnagel was a well known mason contractor and a member of the Arcadia Town Board.
Firemen were called to the Newark Junior High School on West Miller Street to pump water caused by a broken water main.
Dr. J. Richard Tyner was elected president of the New York State Chapter of American College of Chest Physicians.
