The Erie Canal Group Workcamp is returning to our area this July 17 through 23, co-sponsored by the Lyons Methodist Church and Group Cares, formerly Group Workcamps Foundation.

The program involves a nationwide group of 400 teenagers and adult leaders working to repair up to 70 homes within a 20-minute drive of the Lyons High School, their home during their week-long stay in Wayne County.

Projects to be considered for the program must be at owner-occupied homes of low income, elderly and/or disabled residents.  The work the group can undertake includes porch and step repair, light carpentry, wheelchair ramps, interior and exterior painting, weatherization and some roof repair.

In all, the group will be providing up to 12,000 hours of free labor to local communities while in the area, and it needs to meet a goal of $19,000 for its’ share of building materials and supplies. It is looking for home projects to consider, monetary donations and other assistance in its’ efforts.

Residents interested in applying to receive assistance can contact the Lyons Methodist Church at 946-6035. The Clyde Chamber of Commerce is also promoting the program, applications for assistance or information about helping are available at Clyde Hardware or by writing the Chamber at P.O. Box 69, Clyde, NY 14433.
