  • Girls Lacrosse: HF-L surges past Pittsford

  • ari Stankaitis scored six goals to lead the Honeoye Falls-Lima girls lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over Pittsford on Tuesday at Pittsford Sutherland.


    The Panthers entered the game 5-1 but suffered their first loss in four games against Section 5 opponents. Pittsford was coming off a 9-7 win over Canandaigua, the top ranked team in Section 5, last Friday at McAvoy Park.

  • Cari Stankaitis scored six goals to lead the Honeoye Falls-Lima girls lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over Pittsford on Tuesday at Pittsford Sutherland.
    The Panthers entered the game 5-1 but suffered their first loss in four games against Section 5 opponents. Pittsford was coming off a 9-7 win over Canandaigua, the top ranked team in Section 5, last Friday at McAvoy Park.
    After falling behind 3-0 in the first 1:58, the Cougars responded by scoring eight straight goals. Pittsford never recovered.
    Jordan Gruschow started the HF-L scoring with a goal 5:58 into the first half. Back-to-back goals by junior Cougar midfielder Taylor Reed tied the game with 14:02 remaining in the first half.
    Stankaitis scored the first of three straight goals just 1:04 later and HF-L had their first lead of game. Stankaitis scored the third and final goal of the run to put the Cougars ahead 6-3 with 7:58 left in the first half.
    Goals by Sarah LeGrett and Stankaitis gave HF-L an 8-3 lead with 4:07 remaining in the first half. Pittsford senior Tori Wehner scored to cut the deficit to 8-4 with 1:33 left in the half, but Stankaitis tacked on another Cougar goal to give HF-L a 9-4 lead at halftime.
    The Cougars squashed any hopes of a Panther comeback as Stankaitis and Reed scored 8:08 into the second half. HF-L took their biggest lead of the game, 13-5, with 4:26 left, following goals by Melissa Villanti and Kayla O’Connell.
    Holly Turner, Abi Cullinan and Shannon Bissnette scored goals in the second half for the Panthers. Pittsford got off to a fast start thanks to goals by Christine Molinari, Wehner and Bissnette staked the Panthers to a 3-0 lead.
    Cougar senior goalie Mariah Cudipp stopped eight shots to earn the win in net. Offensively, Reed finished with three goals and Gruschow recorded a goal and four assists.
    HF-L returns to the field at 4:30 p.m. on Monday when they play at Rush-Henrietta, while Pittsford is back in action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday when they host Webster Schroeder.
