  • Assemblyman Robert Oaks, R-C Macedon, ranking member of the Assembly’s Ways and Means Committee, met with two students from Palmyra-Macedon High School on April 15 as part of the 13th annual “Students Inside Albany” conference. The conference is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation, Inc.
Junior Katharine Dix and Senior Faith Meckley, both students at Pal-Mac, attended the conference designed to increase students’ awareness of their responsibility in representative government and provide the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility. The interactive conference brought together high school students from across the state to learn about New York State government and the process by which citizens can participate in the policy-making area.
The students shadowed Assemblyman Oaks on April 15 between 2:30 and 5 p.m. and got to sit in on the legislative session. In addition, they toured the Capitol and also observed a Senate session. Students have rated the shadowing experience as being the highlight of their four days in Albany.
