  • LETTER: Keep Irondequoit's momentum going with new library

  • We have to step into the future.

I am in favor of a new library. We all should look with hope that we can now go into the future. Who knows what this will bring? Some people are complaining all of the time about the decrease in population of Irondequoit, but maybe, like the old phrase says, “IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME!”
I am a transplant from downstate ,and I love it here. I love to read, and the new library will offer me a place to go, sit, read, have coffee, meet new people, and go to new programs. We all love the new books, but who can really afford to buy all of the books we want to read? I am a senior on a fixed income; I know that I cannot. The new rooms will offer more than we have now. I honestly do not know how people can read in the old library because the lighting is so bad. We have to step into the future. I met some people recently that have come to the town from Holley. They love the new dollar store and our restaurants. They like the way we are repairing our town. Let’s keep the momentum going forward!
We have a great town, and the new library will entice residents and non-residents to come to our town. We have to work together to get this done, just like a family. Let’s just stop complaining and do something positive, stop the backbiting, and pull together. It might not be that bad if some people would only look at it in a different light and look at the possibilities before us.
Some people are making incorrect statements about the cost, creating dissension in the town; and some people complain about everything the town does, not working toward a positive solution. Well, if you are soooo very unhappy … move. I am sure that we could get someone to help you pack. For me, instead of complaining, I am going to do something to make things better. I am going to vote YES for our library and our town! LET’S GET OUT AND VOTE.
    CAROL CURCIO
