Director Michael Bay has apologized for making his end-of-the-world opus Armageddon, which ironically was not the end of the world, cinematically speaking. (I love the Criterion Collection, but their mystifying selection of this film for a special-edition release is equaled only by their intro of the film: "Despite what you may have heard, Armageddon is a work of art by a cutting-edge artist who is a master of movement, light, color and shape...." Um, sure.)

Armageddon, despite being only the second-best Giant Rock Is About To Hit Planet Earth Movie of 1998, is not all that bad, actually. But when Bay wants to offer mea culpas for Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys 2, then we'll be getting somewhere.
