  • High School Roundup: Pal-Mac earns trip to Class BB baseball title game

  • The top-seeded Palmyra-Macedon baseball team defeated Penn Yan, 4-3, on Wednesday to advance to the Class BB championship game.

  • The top-seeded Palmyra-Macedon baseball team defeated Penn Yan, 4-3, on Wednesday to advance to the Section 5 Class BB championship game.
    Devin Robson had a two-run double, Todd Brockhuizen smashed a solo home run, and Cody Eckerson had two hits and scored a run to provide the Red Raiders with just enough offense.
    The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Pal-Mac answered with a run in the second to tie it up. In the third, Pal-Mac took its first lead with a pair of runs.
    After Penn Yan came right back with two runs in the top of the fourth, the Red Raiders added what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom half of the same inning.
    Pal-Mac pitcher Noah West, who came in to start the third inning, got the win after going four innings while giving up four hits and two runs. Eckerson got the save when he struck out the side in the seventh.
    Pal-Mac will face No. 3 Batavia at 6 p.m. Friday. at McDonough Park in Geneva.
    Class AA2 Semifinals
    No. 1 Brockport 3,
    No. 5 Victor 0
    Brockport’s Julia DiMartino struck out 15 batters in a complete-game three-hitter as she led the Blue Devils into the Class AA2 title game. After the two teams were scoreless through five innings, DiMartino broke the tie with an RBI double.
    Brockport will play Greece Athena for the AA2 title, while Victor finishes the season 11-10.
    Class B1 Semifinals
    No. 4 Livonia 12,
    No. 8 Palmyra-Macedon 7
    Clinging to a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth, Livonia got a two-run home run from Erica Eck to provide enough breathing room to hold off the Red Raiders.
    Alex Crist finished 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored for Pal-Mac.
    Class B2 Semifinals
    No. 2 Wayland-Cohocton 6,
    No. 6 Marcus Whitman 3
    A bases-loaded double by Hannah Kuhn cleared the bases in the sixth inning of a 3-3 game and proved to be the difference. Mackenzie Weber struck out 10 for Way-Co.
    Rachael Scott had a double for the Wildcats, who finish the season 14-5.
    Class C2 Semifinals
    No. 1 Caledonia-Mumford 2,
    No. 4 Red Jacket 1
    Top-seeded Cal-Mum got what would be the winning run in the fourth inning, just enough to hold off the Indians. Kelsey McMullen earned the win with 10 strikeouts. Red Jacket ends the season 14-7.
