After suffering their first loss  of the season just 22 hours before to Midlakes, the Lyons Lady Lions (7-1) didn’t take long to take control of their consolation match against winless South Seneca (0-7) at the Tenth Annual Geneva High School Girls Holiday Tourney. Utilizing their trademark full-court press they easily knocked off Falcons by the score of 46-22.

After suffering their first loss  of the season just 22 hours before to Midlakes, the Lyons Lady Lions (7-1) didn’t take long to take control of their consolation match against winless South Seneca (0-7) at the Tenth Annual Geneva High School Girls Holiday Tourney. Utilizing their trademark full-court press they easily knocked off Falcons by the score of 46-22.

The Lions controlled the boards pulling down 34 team rebounds, with freshman Gator Shields grabbing 10 on the night. Lyons opened up a quick 4-0 lead before South Seneca’s Kelly Jackson nailed a three pointer from the right corner bringing the Falcons to within one point 4-3. That would prove to be as close as the Falcon would get on the night. Lyons went on to end the first quarter with a 12-5 lead.

As the second quarter began Lyons went on a 7-0 scoring run, by  the score 19-5. The Falcons finally scored what would prove to be there only points of the quarter when Chelsey Marsh went to the  line making two free throws after being fouled by Gator Shields.  The Lady Lions went into the locker room at half time with a twenty point lead, 27-7.  

“I thought our press worked really good, giving up only seven points in the first half,”  Lyons coach Eric Kuhn said.

In the third quarter both teams scored ten points , with Lyons senior Shaquana Tucker picking up five of her team high ten points on the night. Also in the third  Kelly Jackson  hit her second three pointer on the night for South Seneca. Lyons led at the end of the third period 37-17.

Lyons would hold the Falcons to just 5 points in the fourth quarter, winning the contest by the final score of 46-22. The Lady Lions continued to suffer from the foul line hitting only 10 for 21. “ We continue to work  on our foul shooting every practice, I don’t know why we continue to miss from the line.” Added coach Eric Kuhn for Lyons.

Leading Lyons on the night was Shaquana Tucker with 10 points and 6 rebounds, Jordan Smith 9 points, 5 steals and Gator Shields with 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. South Seneca was led by Chelsey Marsh who was a perfect four for four from the foul line and Kelly Jackson who hit 2-three point shots with a  team high 11 points.

Lyons will face their two toughest matches of the season next week as they travel to Gananda (7-0) on Wednesday and host Marion (4-2) on Friday.
