Schools throughout the Newark school District were put under temporary lockdown following the report of a suspicious individual in the area, school officials said.

School Superintendent Henry Hann ordered the lockdown and notified parents on the teleconnect service around 2 p.m. this afternoon. Hann said the lockdown was precaution while police investigated the report.

The investigation revealed the report appeared to be unfounded, however, all five schools in the district remained in lockdown until their regular dismissal times, school officials said.

All after school activities were scheduled to occur as planned.
