Nick Binnert scores seven goals as Rush-Henrietta improves to 3-3 with a road win at Brighton. The Royal Comets outscore the Barons 12-4 over the final three quarters in the win.
The Rush-Henrietta boys lacrosse team got to back .500 on the season as they defeated Brighton 17-7 in a Monroe County crossover game on Thursday at Brighton.
The Royal Comets (3-3 overall) dominated the game after the first quarter, as they outscored the Barons (4-3) 12-4 over the final three quarters to blow open a close game. Nick Binnert paced R-H offensively scoring a game-high seven goals.
The Royal Comets led 5-3 after the first quarter and the Barons quickly cut into that lead as Casey Kopp scored 19 seconds into the second quarter to cut Brighton’s deficit to 5-4. The Barons momentum was short-lived.
Binnert scored four straight goals to end the first half as R-H took a 9-4 lead into halftime. Binnert dominated the first half offensively, scoring seven goals.
The Royal Comets carried the offensive surge into the third quarter. Nick Lenhard, Brad Schillinger and Sean Tomkinson scored three goals 24 seconds apart 2:42 into the second half to give R-H a 12-4 lead, their biggest of the game.
Greg Shinaman scored for Brighton, but Schillinger capped the scoring in the third as the Royal Comets took a 13-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
Schillinger finished with three goals for R-H, while Tomkinson and Chauncey Scissum record two apiece. Kopp led the Barons with three goals.
The Royal Comets will hit the road on Saturday to play at Clarence with a 12 p.m. faceoff. Brighton is off until next week when they play at Eastridge at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
