  • When Xiomara Coleman spent two months in Rochester General Hospital during the 2011-12 school year, her hospital stay was made a lot easier because she given coloring books to color in to help pass the time.
In March, Xiomara, now a second grader at the Pre-K through second grade school, approached Principal Jeff Hamelinck with the idea of holding a coloring book drive. So on June 10, the coloring supplies drive was launched at the school and items collected will be given to children in area hospitals in hopes the creative past time will brighten their days and make their stays a bit more enjoyable.
She and Hamelinck designed a flyer that was sent home with every child to advertise the drive. In an accompanying letter, Hamenlinck thanked everyone who would donate new coloring books and crayons.
“On behalf of our second grade student, our school and myself, I want to thank you for supporting this tremendous act of kindness,’’ he wrote.
Coleman, a student in Erin Lynch’s second grade class at Lincoln, was pleased that lots and lots of coloring supplies were donated before the end of the school year.
