  • Thousands of games, toys, hip clothing items, and baby supplies are being donated as perfect winter gifts for kids right now! The Green Angels is gearing up for its Fifth Annual Holiday Free-Cycle and Children’s Health Fair. The Green Angels, Wayne County Rural Health Network and the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District will sponsor the largest give-away ever. Families from Wayne County are invited to join the celebration and shop for free children’s items on Saturday, Dec. 8.
“The true joy of this season is the generosity of community as together we support the innocent happiness and smiles of youth” said Marya Vande-Doyle, president of the Green Angels.
Waiting to be wrapped up, this year’s annual Holiday Free-Cycle is filling box after box. The addition of corporate donations from Garlock Sealing Technologies, Paychex, and the Rochester General Health System as well as thousands of items gathered by senior groups and the Boy and Girl Scouts of America are adding to the awe-inspiring gently used inventory.
“Donations continue to arrive and we anticipate that nearly 1,000 children will receive something donated to this event,” said Bill Doyle, Green Angels vice-president. “One donation at a time, toothbrushes to backpacks, Band-Aids to blankets the generosity of amazing people will support the lives of area children.”
The Green Angels depend on community donations to improve the health, safety and comfort of children, not just during the holidays; the Green Angels deliver to families nearly every day year round. This year with huge appreciation to the Bullis Fund, Walmart, the Rochester Area Community Foundation, the Smith family and Heritage Automotive of Palmyra, you will soon see the organization’s silver van with the Green Angel logo picking up donations and making deliveries.
“It feels like Santa has delivered us a sled! We are beyond thrilled to have a vehicle that can accommodate our program,” said Vande-Doyle.
The Green Angels delivers to families referred by organizations such as the: Pioneer Library System, Roosevelt Children’s Center of Wayne ARC, Wayne County Department of Public Health, and the Victim Resource Center.
“It’s all about information sharing” Vande-Doyle said. “If we can’t help, we will refer clients to The Community Resource Guide or www.wayneresourceguide.org, there are so many committed providers available to help.”
The Holiday Free-Cycle from 1 to 4 p.m. and WCRHN Children’s Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Palmyra-Macedon Middle School, Hyde Parkway, Palmyra. Gently used item donations will be accepted until Dec. 6,  at Breen’s Grocery Stores, the Palmyra Village Hall, Wayne County Public Health, Braselton’s Music, and Wayne County Rural Health Network in Sodus. The event is open to anyone 18 plus years, no sign up is required. Guests must sign a waiver of liability. A suggested donation of a dollar or canned good is welcomed.
