  • Newark—Charles W. Meyers, 88, died Wednesday Feb. 27 at the Hildebrandt Hospice in Rochester.
    Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 E. Miller St., Newark. There will be an Elk's Visitation and Service at 7 p.m.
    Memorials, in his name, may be made to the Finger Lakes Hematology & Oncology, 6 Ambulance Drive, Clifton Springs, New York 14432.
    Mr. Meyers was born on Sept. 14, 1924 in Boston, MA, the son of Elmer and Anna McMinimen Meyers. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 and is a member of the August Mauer Post #285 American Legion. After the service, Chuck received a degree in Landscape Design from Cornell University. He owned and operated Arcadia Florist in Newark for over eighteen years. In the sixty's, he was a designer for the F.T.D World Wide Service. Chuck also worked with Jackson & Perkins designing their new rose varieties for promotion. After selling the business, he went on to outside sales, still selling beauty through floral accessories to florist in five south-western states. Chuck was a life member with over 55 years in the Newark Elks Lodge #1249, where he served in all chairs, becoming Exalted Ruled for 1969-70. He enjoyed a serious game of gin. In his younger years Chuck enjoyed all forms of water sports. He was a certified scuba diver in the 1950's and enjoyed the road motorcycling.
    Chuck is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret "Peggy"; he also leaves a blended family of three girls, Donna (Dayton) Wilson of St. Augustine, Fl., Linda (Michael) Rudd of Green Cove Springs, Fl., and Deborah (Rodney) Brown of Clifton Springs; five grandchildren Rachel Weseman, Amy Renfroe, Ryan Salerno, Nicholas Brown and Jessica Brown; five great grandchildren Brett, Andy and Luke Weseman, Taylor and Dakota Renfroe; a brother Robert (Dorothy) Meyers Hampstead, NH; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, three siblings Shirley Furrow, Elmer and Donald Meyers.
