Britt, Edward Daniel
NEWARK — Edward Daniel Britt, 65, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012 in Missoula, Montana.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Dec. 22 from 4:40 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Council for the Arts located at 108 West Miller St. in Newark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. and Helene U.; and his brother, William U.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas C.; and sister, Barbara A.
DeMay, George H.
NEWARK — George H. DeMay, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at his home surrounded by family.
Friends called 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 E. Miller St., Newark. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery.
Mr. DeMay was born Feb. 17, 1927 to the late Ivan and Margaret Deys DeMay. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. George married his love Betty Lyke in January of 1948. George owned and operated DeMay Disposal for over 35 years. He sold the business and retired in 1985. Most of all, George loved his family, but he had a passion for golf, horseshoes, and bowling. He was able to participate in those activities up until three years ago. George was a member of the Newark Fire Department for over 50 years and was a former Chief. In the 1970s, George served on the Town of Arcadia Board.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; a son, Ken (Patti) of Newark; two daughters, Sandy (Bill) Arbogast of Newark and Kelly (Jason) Boynton of Virginia; six grandchildren, Heather (Justin Hamm) DeMay of Florida, Brian (Caitlin) Arbogast of Newark, Dori Arbogast of Newark, Scolaighe (Masha) Goebert of Kentucky, Donovan Goebert of Virginia and Teaghan Boynton of Virginia; his sister, Ivarene Norcott of Waterloo; many nieces, nephews and his lifelong friend Don (Barb) Brunner.
Mr. DeMay was predeceased by his parents; a son, Ivan; a grandson, Michael Arbogast; and brothers, Archie, Karl and Ron.
His family would like to thank Dr. Hannan, Dr. Tolomeo, the Newark Ambulance, Newark Hospital, and the DeMay Living Center for all of the wonderful care over the past few years. Most of all we would like to thank all of his aides, you girls are the best.

PALMYRA — DeRycke, Gustaf L.,Jr., 82.went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012.
Family and friends were invited to a graveside service with military honors at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 in the Palmyra Cemetery. A memorial service was held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Cross Creek Free Methodist church in Palmyra with a reception to follow at the church.
Page 2 of 5 - Gus was born on March 12, 1930, the son of Gustaf and Hazel Pepper DeRycke Sr. He was devoted member of Cross Creek Church serving in many capacities including ushering and Bible Studies. Gus loved to tinker and could often be found helping the neighborhood children repair their bicycles. The funeral home proudly flies the United States Army flag in honor of Mr. DeRycke's service to our country.
Gus is survived by his wife, Beverly; his “little DeRycke,” Elizabeth; children, Alice (Willard) Hardin, Allen (Betty) and Alex (Dawn) DeRycke; Tobi (Todd) DuVall, Tracy (Angel) Porrata, Tammy (Bill) Affronti, Terri (Lane)Young, Lynn (Eric) Johnson, Patrick Parker and Jodi Chase; sisters, Gert Glazier and Katherine Bodine; special friends, Lauralee, Jared and Brandon Jones. WOLCOTT/PALMYRA — Gorall, David W., died on Wednesday, Dec.12, 2012 at the age of 62.

MACEDON — Died on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012.
Predeceased by his parents, Bernie is survived by his daughter, Lindsay (Shayne Barry) Gravino; two sisters, Teresa Gravino and Mary (Gary) Burkett; six brothers, Joseph Michael (Janet), Chuck, Jim (Alice), John (Judy), Tom (Barb) and Donnie (Marsha) Gravino; many nieces and nephews.
Bernie worked for many years at Qualitrol in Fairport and was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and racecar driver Mark Martin.

Hill, Jean Faro
ONTARIO — Died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at the age of 73.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, John and Nellie VanHoover Faro. Born on Nov. 11, 1939 in Ontario, Jean is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Harry; two daughters, Julie (Richard) Cox and Kimberly Hill; two granddaughters, Courtney and Lauren Cox; brother, Walter (Virginia) Faro; sister, Shirley Street; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jean was a 1957 graduate of Wayne Central High School where she was a cheerleader, class officer, sang in chorus and played the French horn. Jean was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ontario Center. Jean worked for Kodak and then focused on raising her two daughters with Harry. Among her other activities were performing in the community theatre musicals, serving as secretary to the town, zoning and planning boards. Jean also accompanied school choruses and enjoyed reading. Jean was a dominating cribbage player and also enjoyed playing Euchre, Bridge and Dominos. Jean enjoyed watching professional tennis. Jean, and her family, are grateful and feel blessed by the many loving and dedicated friends and caregivers she had over the years.
Friends were invited to call on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519. A celebration of Jean’s life took place on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Ontario Center, 1638 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519. Interment private.

NEWARK — Joan Pieters Rice, 95 went home to the open arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Family and friends called, Sunday, Dec. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark. There were calling hours Monday, Dec. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church, 2057 Port Gibson Rd., E. Palmyra. Mrs. Rice was born the daughter of the late Peter and Cornelia (VanHoover) DeSeyn on March 1, 1917 in Marion, NY. She was a member of the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church. Mrs. Rice worked for Newark Development Center in Newark as an Attendant. She loved to watch her bird feeders and the birds that came to feed. Mrs. Rice had a very strong faith in God and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Herminia loved painting and drawing, sewing, reading and walking. Working in her vegetable and flowers gardens was an enjoyable time for her.
Herminia will be remembered by her son, Alan (Wendy) Sartirana of California; daughters, Marcela (Curtis) Mason of Newark and Claudia (Walker) Ragsdale of California; grandchildren, Curtis, Monica, Emma, Addison, Sebastian and Lucia.

NEWARK — Michael R. Young, 54, died due to an automobile accident on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012.

Page 5 of 5 - Mr. Young was born March 10, 1958, in Lyons the son of Robert and Jean Cowan Young. Upon graduating high school, Mike, left Newark and headed west to work in the oil fields. He returned to the area and worked as a truck driver for Earl T. Wadhams Trucking for about 10 years. Mike became a school bus driver for the Newark School District. Mr. Young had a love of motorized vehicles. He struck out on his own, buying and selling cars and he specialized in converting them to alternative fuels. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, the Geneva Y.M.C.A. and the Electric Car Club of Rochester.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Sampson; two sons, Robert (Kirstie Matthews) of Texas and Bryan of Newark; a daughter, Christine Young of Newark; his mother, Jean Young of Newark; a brother, Richard (Diane) of Lyons; and a sister, Linda (Terry) Button of Phoenix, N.Y.
Mike was predeceased by his father on Nov. 10, 2012; three brothers, Daniel in 2006, Thomas in 1990, and infant brother John.
