  • For the second-straight season, the Lyons High School Player Development 7-on-7 football team will be attending the national championship in Cleveland July 11 to 14.
The squad participated in the regional tournament at All-High Stadium in Buffalo on Saturday, June 22. Lyons defeated Batavia in the semifinals, 41-14. The finals were a re-match of last year’s title game against Buffalo. Again, the Lyons team came out on top by a score of 44-19.
The Lyons team will move on and represent the Buffalo Bills at nationals. All 32 National Football League teams will be entered into a bracket divided by AFC East/West and NFC East/West.
The players on the Lyons team are Midlakes’ Alex Hassam, Clyde-Savannah’s Joey Faniel, Newark’s Phil Tack and Alex Otero, Fairport’s Marquis Young, Aquinas’ Marcus Connor, Dundee’s Jon Huber and Colin Prior, Penn Yan’s Alex Madigan, Trumansburg’s Mike Gorton and Port Byron’s Austin Parker. The team is coached by Dundee’s Sheldon Gibson, Shawn Brace and Matthew Camacho.
All players and coaches will travel to and from Cleveland and enjoy a full itinerary of tours and NFL guest speakers during the weekend. All travel, food, accommodations and uniforms come at no cost to participants. The tournament will be televised on the NFL Network at the end of July.
