  • Girl Scout Cadette Troop 49008 of Lyons has won a theater trip to New York City, June 1 and 2.
All Girl Scout Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scout troops (Grades 7-12) in the 26- county jurisdiction of the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways were eligible to win the free trip.
Qualifications were 100 percent of their girls had to participate in the 2013 Cookie Program, and sell an average of 175 boxes per girl. A winner was drawn from the eligible troops. All other eligible troops not drawn as the winner received a 20 percent discount on the trip if they wished to participate.
The winning Girl Scouts were be surprised by representatives of the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways at the troop’s outing to the Ohmann’s Theater on William Street in Lyons on April 15.
There are 13 girls in the troop, led by Linda Guest of Lyons.
“We are so excited to offer this trip to the girls that worked so hard to raise money to fund their other year-round activities,” said Kimberley Goehner, Director of Program.
The two-day New York City trip will include a visit to Rockefeller Center, a tour of Radio City Music Hall and tickets to a Broadway show. Girls will also enjoy a drama improv workshop, a ride on the Staten Island Ferry around New York Harbor and a visit to the 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program, held each spring in our area, teaches girls five basic skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. The girls of Girl Scout Cadette Troop 49008 sold 1,908 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies.
