  • Local sports fans who just aren’t ready to say goodbye to the high school season will have one more chance to watch their favorite athletes as Victor High School will host the Herb Fitch Lacrosse Senior All-Star games.
The girls game begins at 6 p.m., with the boys players facing off at 8. The Herb Fitch games are similar to to the Ronald McDonald House All-Star games in basketball, featuring the top players from all over Section 5.
Like most all-star games, fans will have the chance to see rivals play together. Just look at the roster of the Red team in the boys game.
Irondequoit will have five players on the roster including goalie Alex Shoemaker and midfielder Ben Brooks. Long-time sectional rival Canandaigua will be represented by defenseman Zak Bussey and Dan LaCrosse, who scored the game-winning goal in the Braves win over Victor in the Class B championship game last month.
Joe Hill (Pal-Mac), Tyrone Thomas (Waterloo) and Ian Buckley (Bloomfield-Honeoye) will coach the Red Team.
The Blue Team will feature plenty of players who spent their careers on opposing sides with multiple players from Fairport, Penfield and Webster Thomas. Jake Giudice (Thomas), Jay Vakiekner (Fairport) and Charlie Cummins (Penfield) are among those who are expected to play for the Blue.
The Blue Team will be coached by Jim DeWald (Rush-Henrietta), John McGurk (Webster Schroeder) and Mike Pane (Gananda).
The girls lacrosse season featured plenty of parity as evidenced by outstanding championship and semifinal games in Class A and B. The Pittsford/Penfield championship game in Class A came down to the final minute, while the CA/Irondequoit semifinal in Class B went to triple overtime.
The Braves and Panthers will be well-represented on the Red team with a game-high four players apiece. CA’s talented senior class includes Kendall and Lauren D’Amore and they will be joined by Pittsford seniors Tori Wehner and Hayley Peets.
State tournament finalists Brighton and semifinalists HF-L and Penfield lead the Blue team with 10 players between the three teams. Cari Stankaitis (HF-L), Michelle Nesselbush (Penfield) and Meaghan Bowen (Brighton) will lead a talented team of seniors.
Tickets cost $5 for adults and $2 for students. For more information on the games visit www.uslacrosserochester.org.
