In softball sectional action CA defeated Churchville-Chili and Marion defeated Naples while in baseball sectionals it was CA over Jefferson/Franklin. In boys tennis sectionals Pal-Mac defeated Attica, Holley defeated Whitman and Batavia defeated Geneva.

Class AA


No. 17 Canandaigua 5, No. 15 Churchville-Chili 4


In Churchville, Canandaigua freshman Alyssa Gillen pitched a complete game six-hitter to earn her first career varsity win. Kaitlyn Schmeer went 2 for 4 with and an RBI and scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice from teammate Jordan Boylan. Larissa Murphey went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scoring the game-tying run. CA’s Grace Thomas was also 2 for 3.


Kylie Keller went 2 for 4 with a run scored and teammate Leighan Pettis went 2 for 3 for the Saints.


The game started on Monday but was called in the bottom of the first with Churchville leading 4-1.


Canandaigua plays at No. 2 Wilson Wednesday afternoon.


 


Class C3


No. 8 Marion 24, No. 9 Naples 11


In Marion, Rebecca Sippel pitched a complete game, striking out six, helping Marion defeat Naples Tuesday. Rebecca Couperus and Anna Mitchell each went 3 for 4 and scored four runs to lead the offense. Couperus added six RBIs. Sami Bailey went 3 for 4, scoring three runs with one RBI. 


Loran Fleischman went 3 for 4 and scored four runs while teammate Taylor Hains hit a home run for Naples.


 


Baseball


No. 10 Canandaigua 7, No 7 Jefferson/ Franklin 0


In Rochester at Franklin High School, Pat Carbary, Jake Spina and Tyler Fisher combined on a three-hit shutout, striking out 11. Carbary also chipped in a pair of doubles offensively. Austin Coyne finished 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Steve Richardson and Patrick Coyne each finished with two RBIs for CA


The Braves move on to play at No. 2 McQuaid at 4:30 p.m. Friday.


 


Boys tennis


Class B


Pal-Mac 5, Attica 0


In the first round of the class B sectional tournament, Pal-Mac defeated Attica by a score of 5-0. Leading the way for Pal-Mac was Matt Wightman at first singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mike Dylag. Pal-Mac advances to the class B semi-finals and will host the winner of Wayland-Cohocton vs. Bath. 


 


Holley 4, Marcus Whitman 1


The Marcus Whitman Wildcats' tennis season came to a grinding halt in this round of the Class B sectionals at Holley. Whitman’s lone win came from Danny Wickham, a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set win at first singles. 


 


Aquinas 3, Newark 2


In this first round sectional match in Rochester, Newark’s points came from James Jock's win at third singles and Jon Norris/Curtis Mason’s win at second doubles.


 


Class BB


Batavia 5, Geneva 0


In Batavia, in a match played with 10-point game-pro sets in order to beat the weather, the Panthers failed to win a match, led however by their highest scoring second doubles team of Jeff McGuigan and Nick Evans. Geneva ended their season at 2-10.
