What’s new at Boeheim-Pusateri Funeral Home
In celebration of 35 years of business in Lyons, the funeral home is hosting an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26. There will be refreshments and door prizes. The event is open to the public.
How did you get into in the business?
“I just got interested in the business when I worked for a florist, and I delivered flowers to funeral homes,” said owner Tom Pusateri, who also owns Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home in Newark, Pusateri Funeral Home in Clyde and Troiano Funeral Home in East Rochester. “I met the different funeral directors.”
What have you enjoyed about owning the business?
“There’s nothing I like about death, but I like helping people who’ve lost a loved one, especially help them during their period of loss — just being there to help in their time of need. The difficult part of the job is probably dealing with young people, children and accident victims. It takes somebody who’s dedicated because you work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
How has the business changed over the years?
“The big change is there’s a lot more cremations, and people limit the calling hours to one day.”
